Medea Benjamin, co-founder of peace activist group CODE PINK and human rights group Global Exchange, was in the Tampa Bay area last weekend to promote her new book: Kingdom of the Unjust: Behind the U.S.–Saudi Connection. I was able to attend one of Benjamin’s eye-opening talks, which covered Saudi human rights violations and U.S.-Saudi arms deals.

Dear JoAnn, I strongly concur with Medea Benjamin’s premise that the US needs to reconsider its alliance with Saudi Arabia. The US does not report on the Saudi human rights abuses but they detail that of the Syrian’s President Assad. Yes, Assad has been brutal but he is like many of the other dictators in the middle east including those in Saudi Arabia.
This relationship is hurting our national security. Saudi Arabia is the one most strongly advocating for the overthrow of Assad when after 5 years of this failed policy, the US should have only one priority, and that is the destruction of ISIS and then the ending of any more destruction in Syria. .

So glad you support Medea’s activism for peace, Gronda. Saudi Arabia is a huge outlet for the sale of US weapons. As long as there is profit to be made from war, there will always be war.
